About this policy

This policy covers englishpracticeexam.com, its language sites, and the English Practice Exam apps for iOS and Android ("the service"). The service is run by S-Block Technologies ("we").

We do not sell your data or show ads in the service. On the website we use Google Ads conversion measurement to see which of our ads lead to sign-ups and purchases (see Cookies). The apps do not use it.

Data we collect

  • Account: your email address. You sign in with a one-time code that we email to you, or with Google. With Google sign-in we receive your Google account ID and email address, never your Google password. If you created an account with a password in the past, we keep only a hashed form of it.
  • Practice activity: the tests you take, your answers, scores and time spent, and the tests, credits and downloads on your account.
  • Writing for AI grading: the writing you submit for grading and the feedback it receives, saved with your test results.
  • Madison chats: the messages you send to Madison, our AI tutor, Madison's replies, and the practice question you asked about, if any.
  • Purchases on the website: Stripe takes your card details; we never see them. We keep your Stripe customer ID, what you bought and your subscription status.
  • Purchases in the apps: subscriptions are bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive and keep the purchase details the store sends us (product, transaction ID, status, renewal and expiry dates) to give you Pro. We do not receive your payment details.
  • Saved scores: if you enter your email to save a score before you have an account, we keep the email, the test and the score.
  • Referrals: your referral code and the accounts that joined with it.
  • Country and traffic source: our host tells us your country from your IP address. We use it to show prices and in sales reports, with the type of site that sent you to us (for example, a search engine). We do not store your IP address. To limit repeated checkout attempts we keep a one-way hash of it for one day.
  • Usage statistics: Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and events, such as starting a checkout. It does not use cookies.
  • Ad measurement on the website: if you came from one of our Google ads, we keep the ad click ID Google adds to the link and store it with a purchase. When you create an account or make a purchase, the website tells Google Ads, with the purchase amount and an order or account ID, never your email address.
  • Technical data: like any website, our host processes your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and keep the service secure.

Data that stays on your device

The apps keep your daily reminder setting on your phone and use local notifications for it. Your browser or app also keeps a list of the tests you finished. This data is not sent to us.

We do not collect your location from your device, contacts, photos, microphone, or advertising ID.

How we use your data

  • To run your account, sign you in, and save your progress.
  • To grade your writing and answer your questions in Madison.
  • To process purchases and give you Pro, credits and downloads.
  • To send emails about your account: sign-in codes, and one reminder if you leave a website checkout unfinished. Without an account, you get that reminder only if you agreed to it at checkout.
  • To show prices for your country, count free practice tests, and stop abuse.
  • To understand which pages and features work, using totals and sales reports.
  • To see which of our Google ads lead to sign-ups and purchases.

Who processes your data

These companies process data for us to run the service. Each handles it under its own privacy policy.

  • OpenAI: the writing you submit for AI grading, and your Madison messages with the question you asked about, to create feedback and replies.
  • Google: Google sign-in, if you choose it, and Google Ads conversion measurement on the website.
  • Apple and Google Play: in-app purchases.
  • Stripe: payments on the website.
  • Vercel: hosting and usage statistics.
  • Neon: database hosting.
  • Our email service: sends sign-in codes and checkout reminders to your email address.

Cookies

We use cookies the service needs, and on the website Google Ads conversion measurement cookies to see which of our ads lead to sign-ups and purchases. For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google sets no Google Ads cookies.

  • session: keeps you signed in, for up to 30 days.
  • practice_views: counts free practice tests, for 30 days.
  • google_oauth_state and google_oauth_context: protect Google sign-in, for 10 minutes.
  • referral_code: remembers a friend's referral link, for 30 days.
  • epe_country: remembers your country for prices, for 30 days.
  • epe_src: remembers the type of site that sent you to us, for 30 days.
  • epe_first_touch: remembers the type of site that first sent you to us and the page you landed on, for 30 days.
  • epe_gclid: remembers the Google ad click that sent you to us, for 90 days.
  • epe_ads_signup and epe_ads_purchase: pass a new account or purchase to Google Ads on the next page, for up to 1 hour.
  • Google Ads cookies (such as _gcl_aw): set by Google to measure ad conversions, for up to 90 days.

Deleting your account

Signed in on the website or in the app, open the menu and choose Delete account. You can also go to englishpracticeexam.com/account/delete.

This deletes your account and email address, test history, writing and feedback, Madison chats, credits, purchases, downloads, referrals, saved scores and sign-in codes. It also deletes the App Store and Google Play purchase records linked to you.

A website Pro subscription is cancelled when you delete your account. Apple and Google subscriptions are not: cancel them in your App Store or Google Play settings first, or they may keep charging you.

We keep a few records without your email address or account: sales report events, and website checkout records for accounting. Stripe, Apple and Google keep their own payment records.

You can also delete single Madison conversations at any time. If you cannot sign in or do not have the app, email us from your account's address to ask for deletion. We confirm the address is yours and delete the account within 30 days.

How to delete your account without signing in

How long we keep data

We keep your data while your account exists, and delete it when you delete your account, as described above. Sign-in codes stop working after 10 minutes.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your personal data at any time by emailing us. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local law, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.

Security

The website and apps use encrypted connections (HTTPS). Sign-in codes are stored only in hashed form.

Changes

When we change this policy, we update this page and the date at the top.
