Four people describe living without a car
Sofia
I’ve never owned a car, and living in the city centre, I’ve never really needed one. I cycle almost everywhere, even in winter, although I’ll admit that riding to work in heavy rain isn’t much fun. People assume it must be a sacrifice, but for me it’s the opposite: I’d hate to sit in traffic or spend twenty minutes looking for somewhere to park. The one thing I find hard is visiting my parents, who live in a small town with only two trains a day. I usually have to stay overnight, which isn’t always convenient. Cycling has also made me much fitter than I was at university. I hadn’t expected that, but these days I think nothing of riding fifty kilometres at the weekend just for fun.
